State Of The Union Roundup And Reaction

No, I didn’t do a SOTU liveblog.

If you want one of those, there are plenty of places to find one.

Nonetheless, Cabernet Sauvignon in hand — how else can one survive the Bush Administration — here are my bullet points.

  1. How in the heck can I believe anything George Bush says when it comes to controlling spending or earmarks after looking at how the first seven years of his administration went ? Say what you want Mr. President, but you governed far different from your rhetoric, and, sir, you are no fiscal conservative
  2. Maybe you’re right that the mess in Iraq is better than it was, but when is someone going to take responsibility for the mess in the first place ? When is someone going to admit that our pre-war intelligence was completely wrong ? And when is someone going to admit that the war plan was completely wrong ? Until those questions are answered, your legacy is tainted.
  3. When is someone going to follow Thomas Jefferson’s example and deliver the SOTU on a piece of paper ?

And that, quite honestly, is all I’ve got to say about this annual national spectacle.
