McCain Scores A Victory In Florida

by @ 10:30 pm on January 29, 2008.

The Republican race continued to narrow tonight as John McCain scored a victory in Florida:

Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) won a crucial victory over former governor Mitt Romney in Florida. Earlier in the night, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) won a largely symbolic primary victory in Florida.

With 62 percent of the vote on the Republican side counted, McCain led Romney, 36 percent to 31 percent. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who had staked his entire campaign on a strong showing in Florida, trailed with 15 percent. Former governor Mike Huckabee (Ark.) ran fourth with 13 percent.

“Our victory might not have reached landslide proportions, but it’s sweet nonetheless,” McCain told supporters in Miami a few minutes ago.

And , yes, a 5% victory is not a landslide, but it gives yet more momentum to a McCain campaign that is close to being unstoppable.
