As I noted earlier today, Mitt Romney winning the Republican nomination is a near mathematical impossibility. There’s simply no way, between now and the last primary, that he’s going to be able to pull off winning the 900 delegates he would need and keep John McCain from winning the 500 or so that he needs. At this point, Romney continuing contest this race accomplishes absolutely nothing for him, or the Republican Party.
Therefore, he needs to bow to the inevitable and get out of the race immediately.
Mark @ Publius Endures puts it well:
[E]very extra dollar that Mitt Romney spends from his personal fortune on this campaign will show that he (Romney) really would not make a good President.
And, more importantly, it shows that all he really wants to do is pull the GOP apart.

Or we could just tell Huckabee the spoiler to get out.

Huckabee’s supporters would mostly go directly to McCain, given Romney’s liberal social history, which speaks volumes louder than his words. Romney’s supporters hate McCain and would mostly support Huckabee. If they really want to keep McCain out of the Whitehouse, they will strongly urge Romney to graciously bow out immediately.

I agree that Romney would have a tremendous uphill battle to get to the nomination. More depressing is the fact that when/if he drops out, McCain/Huckabee are automatic winners. I do believe that Huckabee, after his fluke win in Iowa, did start to broker himself to the remaining candidates that were ahead of him. He finally found that promise with McCain as Vp or a cabinet post, he could help McCain with the religious vote, and did in fact get some key Southern Bible Belt states. When McCain wins the nomination, Huckabee will disapear as McCain will choose one of his “friends”. Huckabee is only a tool right now for McCain. Where are these Evangelicals brains? Do they think he can really win? Romney is ahead of him and has slim chance. Huckabee is really a spoiler with a big imagination!
