I noticed this morning that the delegate totals had been updated over at RealClearPolitics.
So, here’s where things stand this morning:
Republicans:
- John McCain — 720 delegates
- Mitt Romney — 279 delegates
- Mike Huckabee — 194 delegates
- Ron Paul — 14 delegates
If I’m doing the math right, this means that there are 1,175 delegates yet to be chosen. McCain needs to win 471 of them, or 40%, to clinch the nomination. Romney, on the other hand, would need to win more than 3/4 of the delegates yet to be chosen —- and that just isn’t going to happen.
Democrats
- Hillary Clinton — 1,079 delegates (including 211 superdelegates)
- Barack Obama — 979 delegates (including 128 superdelegates)
Without the superdelegates, the totals look like this:
- Hillary Clinton — 868 delegates
- Barack Obama — 851 delegates
And then there’s those disputed delegates from Florida and Michigan.
This is going to be fun to watch.

They must still be counting because according to Politico, Obama should get about 840 from Super Tuesday and Clinton 830. Including IA, NH, NV and SC, I count Obama = 903 and Clinton = 878 without superdelegates.
