Huckabee Wins Louisiana, Washington Too Close To Call

by @ 6:05 am on February 10, 2008.

Mike Huckabee pulled off another win last night by winning the second leg of the Louisiana caucuses, while Washington’s Republican race is too close to call.

All in all, a good night for the Huckster, but as, Fox News notes, he’s still got pretty much no chance of winning the nomination:

For Republicans, 1,191 delegates are needed. John McCain had 719 delegates compared to Huckabee’s 234 delegates after his Kansas win. An additional 38 pledged delegates were at stake in Louisiana and Washington. McCain’s campaign has said the earliest the Arizona senator could seal the nomination with the needed 1,191 delegates is the March 4 primary.

Huckabee would have to win 83 percent of Republican votes to take that win away from McCain, but his win in Kansas demonstrated the lingering rift in the party after McCain was minted the clear front-runner Super Tuesday.

Huckabee beat McCain by a margin of three-to-one. Huckabee had the support of anti-abortion activists, while McCain had the backing from conservative Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback. McCain is trying to reach out to conservatives, many of whom are skeptical of him for taking moderate positions on campaign finance, taxes and immigration.

Up next, the Potomac Primaries on Tuesday. Of the three states up for grabs, Huckabee only has a realistic shot in Virginia, and I don’t think he’s really got a shot here at all.

Romney has 298 and Huck 234 that adds up to 532. If Huckabee can keep winning we can have a brokered convention, and one that doesn’t have the candidate with a proven history of selling us out at the top of the ticket.

Yeah Maryland is full of too many Govt employees? I can only imagine that all the Senate staffers will vote McCain in the DC primary, if for nothing else to get him out of the Senate!

If the past is any indication of future performance we are in deep doo-doo… Unless you are a Democrat, and then you will just be getting what you want albeit at a slower pace, than if the Dems had the presidency and congress….

Hmm last time that was a Clinton, and two years later in 1994 WE got back Congress…

Huckabee may have “won” Louisiana, but he will get no delegates from Louisiana. To get delegates in the Louisiana primary, you must get 50% or more of the vote. Tax Hike Mike came short of that. McCain will be awarded all of Louisiana’s delegates at the convention on Saturday because the “pro-life, pro-family” ticket which won the GOP Caucuses have endorsed McCain and McCain is expected to win the convention.
