Hillary Clinton Leads In Ohio, Pennsylvania Polls

by @ 1:10 pm on February 14, 2008.

For the moment at least, it looks like Hillary Clinton is leading Barack Obama in one of her two March 4th firewall states:

New York Senator Hillary Clinton leads Illinois Senator Barack Obama by fourteen percentage points in the latest Rasmussen Reports poll of the Ohio Democratic Presidential Primary. Clinton currently earns 51% of the Buckeye State vote while Obama attracts 37%.

Clinton leads by seven points among men and eighteen points among women. She holds a solid lead among voters over 50.

In Ohio, Clinton is viewed favorably by 81%, Obama by 71%.

That was Rasmussen and the Quinnipiac polls is similar:

Ohio: Clinton 55, Obama 34

And a similar lead in Pennsylvania, which holds it’s primary April 22nd:

Pennsylvania: Clinton 52, Obama 36

Interestingly enough though, in a head-to-head matchup, John McCain would beat both Hillary and Obama in Ohio and Florida, while he trails in Pennsylvania:

Florida: McCain 44 percent - Clinton 42 percent; McCain 41 percent - Obama 39 percent

Ohio: McCain 44 percent - Clinton 43 percent; McCain 42 percent - Obama 40 percent

Pennsylvania: Clinton 46 percent - McCain 40 percent; Obama 42 percent - McCain 41

I would expect to see the numbers in Ohio and Pennsylvania to close before their respective primaries.
