One Week Later, Romney Endorses McCain

by @ 2:18 pm on February 14, 2008.

Last week, Mitt Romney dropped out of the Presidential race in a speech at CPAC.

Today, he will endorse John McCain for the Presidency and encourage his delegates to support McCain at the convention:

(CNN) — Former Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney plans to announce Thursday that he is backing Sen. John McCain in his bid for the Oval Office, two sources familiar with the decision said.

A source familiar with the decision said Romney wants to endorse McCain “in the interest of healing.”

The source said Romney also wants to help McCain move faster to “secure the nomination and unite the party for the general election against the Democrats for November.”

Romney will “release” his delegates to McCain, meaning he will encourage them to get behind McCain’s candidacy. the source said.

Once again, the GOP is coalescing around it’s inevitable nominee.

As James Joyner notes, McCain’s delegates plus Romney’s delegates means this race is close to being officially over:

[T]heoretically at least, this would seem to end the race: Romney’s delegates plus McCain’s is just a few short of being enough to nominate (812+286=1098; nomination requires 1191). My guess is that Mike Huckabee keeps plugging away, though.

Yea mine too, at least after he gets back from the Cayman’s.

Here is a ‘Best of’ John McCain I put together. You MAY need to copy and paste each individual link in your browser to watch these (if the link does not automatically take you to the video), but it is worth it. The videos say it all (I wish these could just run as commercials in every state that has yet to hold it caucus / primary!). Even the most staunch McCain supporter could not deny the idiocy of this man. Enjoy, and feel free to share with everyone you know!
