I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Hillary Clinton Plays The Class Warfare Card

by @ 6:52 am on February 20, 2008.

You’ve got to hand it to Hillary Clinton.

Here’s a woman who’s been married to political power most of her adult life, whose been driven around by Arkansas State Troopers and the Secret Service for a good part of that, who would be just another Yale grad if she hadn’t married Bill, and who, except for campaign stops, probably hasn’t seen the inside of a supermarket since Chelsea was a child.

Despite all of that, she’s got the chutzpah to play the class warfare card.

First, she claims that an entire class of people, including apparently her own daughter, don’t do real work:

Sen. Hillary Clinton took a swipe at her daughter’s profession today at an economic roundtable discussion at a restaurant in Parma, Ohio, suggesting wealthy investment bankers and hedge fund managers on Wall Street aren’t doing real ‘work.’

The former first lady’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, works for New York-based hedge fund Avenue Capital Group. She previously worked in New York for McKinsey & Company, her first job after graduating with her master’s degree from Oxford University.

“We also have to reward work more,” Clinton told a small group of Ohio residents today. “and by that, I mean, I have people in New York working on Wall Street as investment managers, as hedge fund executives. Under the tax code, they can pay a lower percentage of their income in taxes on $50 million dollars, than a teacher, or a nurse, or a truck driver in Parma pays on $50,000. That’s very discouraging to people.”

You just feel like, ‘wait a minute. I’m working as hard as I can.’ All those people you see in your law office. They’re working as hard as they can and they feel like they’re just getting further and further behind,” Clinton said.o

And you know, Hillary being First Lady of Arkansas and the United States, and a United States Senator can sympathize with all those hard-working auto workers in Parma:

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is reaching out to blue-collar voters with a new ad that says she can empathize with the travails of the night shift.

“You pour coffee, fix hair, you work the night shift at the local hospital,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot, ‘Night Shift,’ over footage of workers on the job.

“You’re often overworked, underpaid, and sometimes overlooked. But not by everyone. One candidate has put forth an American family agenda to make things easier for everyone who works so hard. ….”

The ad ends with a photo of Clinton working at her desk at night. “She understands. She’s worked the night shift, too.”

Hillary, working nights at the Rose Law Firm trying to land the latest real estate deal isn’t exactly the same as working on an auto assembly line. Not that you’d know that.
