Mike Huckabee, The Governor From Fantasyland

by @ 12:22 pm on February 22, 2008.

Tax Hike Mike has a new crackpot reason for staying in the race:

In an interview with 1200 WOAI news during his swing through Texas, longshot Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee outlined a strategy which has him not winning the GOP nomination outright, but pushing the nomination to the September Republican National Convention, which he says will turn to him as the most ‘conservative alternative.’

The ‘brokered convention’ plan is in stark contrast to Huckabee’s previous sunny predictions of a sweep to victory in the primaries and caucuses on the shoulders of adoring family values conservatives.

Huckabee said his ‘brokered convention’ strategy is predicated on a victory in Texas, the country’s largest Republican state.

“We think Texas is an important state,” Huckabee told me. “We know how important it is to win Texas.”

Huckabee says with an upset win in Texas, and a win in the Ohio Republican primary the same day, Huckabee could deny front runner John McCain the nomination in the primaries.

And if pig had wings they could fly. I know the Huckster said he believes in miracles, but even God hasn’t pulled off something this outlandish the Red Sea was parted.

Curious how folks argue against Mike Huckabee. Is based on issues? For the most part, no. Generally, the argument against Huckabee is that he cannot win. Even if we for the moment concede that that fact is true, that is not a good reason for him to quit. By running, Huckabee publicizes the issues of the people who favor his candidacy.

Long shot? Yes, but Huckabee has nothing to lose, and his supporters enjoy hearing him talk. :-)

    Tom,

I’ve had plenty to say about Huckabee on the issues:

Huck is anti-science. Anyone who publically says that they don’t “believe” in evolution isn’t intellectually ready to be President.

  5. Citizen Tom Says:

Yeah, I have seen most of that stuff. And I think my assessment remains correct. It seems to me that you opposed the “theocrat” and then you went looking for additional justification. I don’t think what you found amounts to much.

For example, the way Huckabee presents the gas tax as being approved by the voter was rather dumb. Lie? Too easy to catch. At the same time, the Club for Growth also vastly overstates its case when they say Huckabee raised taxes. They are basically calling inflation a tax increase.

I considered all Republican candidates. None is perfect. Since voting for Clinton, Edwards, or Obama is out of the question, I had to pick one of them. Huckabee struck me as the best choice. Why?

    Tom,

The thing that turned me off to Tax Hike Mike at first was, well, that he’s Tax Hike Mike.

As Governor he never met a tax hike he didn’t approve.

Therefore, I don’t believe him when he says he’s reformed.

And, I’m not convinced that the so-called Fair-Tax is the solution to our problems.

This is a guy who two weeks ago talked about creating the world’s biggest make-work project — expanding I-95 from Maine to Florida.

He’s not a fiscal conservative and he never has been.
