Serbs in Kosovo are continuing to protest the nation’s independence:
(CNN) — Kosovo’s breakaway from Serbia provoked fresh unrest Friday as U.N. police were attacked by ethnic Serb demonstrators in northern Kosovo a day after angry demonstrations in the Serbian capital Belgrade left one person dead.
The Associated Press said protesters among a crowd of 5,000 trying to cross a key bridge in the divided city of Mitrovica, hurled empty bottles and stones at the police. It was initially thought that the police retaliated with canisters of tear gas but AP later said this was actually firecrackers fired by protesters.
The demonstrators were waving Serbian flags and chanting “Kosovo is ours!” on what was the fifth day of protests since Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian leaders declared independence from Serbia on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the United States is withdrawning non-essential personnel and warning Serbia that the safety of the U.S. embassy is their responsibility:
BELGRADE, Serbia (CNN) — The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade is evacuating all nonessential personnel following Thursday’s attack on the building by a crowd of protesters, a spokesman for the embassy told CNN Friday.
The United States has warned the Serbian government that it has a responsibility to protect its assets.
A top U.S. diplomat was asked during an interview on CNN if the Serbian government “gets” the warning.
“They’d better get it, because they have a fundamental responsibility to protect our diplomats and our embassy and to protect American citizens,” said Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs R. Nicholas Burns. “What happened yesterday in Belgrade was absolutely reprehensible.”
But when you’re dealing with a government that stays in power by egging on crowds like that, it was entirely predictable.

U.S.: An event like embassy attack “should not happen in a civilized country.”
An event were people loot stores and kill people after a natural disaster should not happen in civilized first world power country. Yup yup.
How did this happen? Did the US not have adequate security? Not to be politically incorrect, but here I go: is there a conflict in this world that does not involve Muslims?
In a civilized country we insist upon all newcomers to learn our language; We do not allow a mass exodus of our manufacturing base to a communist empire located half way around the world, who seek our destruction; We pay our teachers a livable, competitive salary; We encourage family; We respect the rights of others, regardless of their views; We DO NOT SIT BACK and allow our constitutional rights to be eroded!!! (At least, that’s the theory!)
On this link http://www.spc.yu/Vesti-2004/pogrom.html you can see whats happen in one democratic and multiethnic country under NATO and USA protection.
What is next? Texas goes to the mexicans? What about Palestina or Kurdistan?
When your neighbor will try to take half of your back yard, because he has more muscles and couple of friend with guns, I will see what you would be yapping then.
We are sticking out nose in all sort of shit and then complain that we can’t get rid of smell.
There international laws that we must obey like everyone else, I remember days that US was loved throughout the world, those days are gone.
We bomb Christian county, we took part of their land and we think that we will not get punished, for all we’ve done? http://www.spc.yu/Vesti-2004/pogrom.html – look at this link this is what we did and what do you think we deserve in return, love and understanding?
[...] Goes Kosovo, So Goes Quebec ? Russia: Force Not Ruled Out In Kosovo Crisis More Serbian Violence In Kosovo The Death, Finally, Of Yugoslavia [...]
The Serbs have no more rights in Kosovo than the Nazis had in the Sudetenland in the 40’s. They are an ethnic minority that moved in with their governments approval to try to establish settlements in a homeland that has belonged to the Albanians for centuries. Kosovo was stripped from Albania at it’s formation by the Turks and Yugoslavs, to prevent the new Albanian state from being too powerful in the region.
There are certainly more native born Albanians than Serbs and their families can be traced back to tribal clans that predeceded the modern states of Albania and Serbia. So let the Serb quietly go back to Belgrade and stop the violence.
