Serbia Blames U.S. For Violence

by @ 10:29 am on February 23, 2008.

A member of the Serbian government has made the absurd claim that the United States is responsible for the violence that has erupted since Kosovo declared independence:

(CNN) — Serbian prosecutors said Saturday they were hunting rioters who targeted the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade leaving one person dead while a senior Serbian minister reportedly blamed Washington for the violence triggered by Kosovo’s breakaway.

Authorities said they had arrested nearly 200 rioters who took part in the violence on Thursday that prompted the United States to evacuate non-essential embassy staff and warn Serbia it would be held responsible.

“We are collecting evidence and are identifying the culprits,” Slobodan Radovanovic said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.

Serbia’s Kosovo minister Slobodan Samardzic said Saturday that the U.S. — which backed Kosovo’s breakaway and was among the first countries to recognize its seccession — was the “main culprit” for the violence, AP reported.

What an absurd bunch of crap. The Serbian government has been the one encouraging violence through the statement’s that it’s been making since Kosovo broke away at the beginning of the week. They’re the ones trying to keep a nation that doesn’t want to be ruled from Belgrade from charting it’s own destiny. Heck, they’re the ones that were repressing the Kosovars when they did have control of the region.

The Serbians have cooked their own goose on this one.

I believe that the US and other nations that were targeted by the rioters should submit official complaints to the UN and the Security Council. Given that this body was specifically created to deal with issues such as this, there is no one better equipped to punish the Serbs for this unsolicited act of violence. Surely the UN SC will arrive at feasible solution.

    Oh wait….

Now we are calling for UN and international law. UN resolution 1244 guarantied Serbian integrity and recognizing independence of the Kosovo - is against international law. Daly problem of US foreign policy – when is something convenient for us we will use it when is not just ignore it.

What many fail to realize in this whole debate is that Kosovo has been a part of Serbia for 700 years!!! It has had a tumultuous past. The decisive battle for Kosovo came in 1389 and really defined the establishment of automomy as a Serbian nation. During the 2nd world War with the Fascist Muslim state of Albania (an alley of Hitler) forceably forced 100,000 serbians removed from there homes (about 10,000) died and colonized with invader albanians as a way to control the territory..
Why should we, the US, support an entity that has been controlled by the Muslim run fascist state of Albania? We should be supporting the Serbs. Unfortunately, we have leaders who don’t know history and just do what’s popular.
Shame on Bush…The real genecide started in 1942 with Ethnic Albanian’s killing Serbs in Kosovo.

See references here (below) and also in Wikipedia (which this is pulled from)

Mustafa Kruja, the Prime Minister of Albania, was in Kosovo in June 1942, and at a meeting with the Albanian leaders of Kosovo, he said: “We should endeavor to ensure that the Serb population of Kosovo be – the area be cleansed of them and all Serbs who had been living there for centuries should be termed colonialists and sent to concentration camps in Albania. The Serb settlers should be killed.”

This is just more evidence of the “kill Americans because their government is screwed up” mentality that is being encourage from nearly all corners of the world. There is no excuse for a host country of an embassy, regardless of how willing a host it may be, to permit a mob attack and then blame it on the visiting country. If they really don’t want us their, they should stop accepting any of our money (direct or trade) and we should leave them to the ruin of their own devices.
