Funny. Although I have a feeling some of the Nutroots and the Paulbots will take it seriously.
I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

I have written a few posts elsewhere relating my observations of the computer-based voting system used in Henrico County. Paulistinians and others should maintain a healthy skepticism about any voting procedure used, however, based on my experience using these computer-based systems, I consider these systems more secure than paper ballots.
The concept that votes might be compromised through hacking, or some sort of Diebold/industry conspiracy are implausible. Those who cling to this idea need to admit that such an extensive conspiracy could compromise paper ballots even easier.
Could these computer based systems (they are not all Diebold, by the way) be improved? Yes, to some extent. Some voters would like to have a receipt, while others say that having a receipt would submit the voter to coercion by organized labor or others who try to control a particular block of voters. I would prefer an option to have a printed receipt.
I would like to see many more versions of the software produced and tested. It would be an added security measure if all of the voting machines in each county or precinct were not the same hardware/software combination, with different encryption protocols.
One method of ensuring one man one vote, would be to have a national ID card or biometric criteria matched to each citizen. I am sure that most freedom loving citizens do not want to march in that direction. We already have lost too much of our freedom since the 9/11 murders.
The best defense against vote fraud is a well informed, activist citizenry who are committed to the principles of Liberty and Justice for all.
