Prominent Superdelegate Switches From Clinton To Obama

by @ 3:34 pm on February 27, 2008.

This was rumored two weeks ago, but now it’s official; Georgia Congressman John Lewis withdrew his support from Hillary Clinton and endorsed Barack Obama:

(CNN) — Rep. John Lewis has formally switched his support to Sen. Barack Obama in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, he told CNN affiliate WSB Wednesdy.

The respected voice on civil rights was one of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s most prominent African-American supporters.

Lewis, a Democratic congressman from Georgia, cited Obama’s overwhelming victory in the state earlier this month and said he thinks Americans are looking for the kind of change Obama represents.

Obama also picked up the support of a formerly neutral Senator, North Dakota’s Byron Dorgan:

Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) told The Trail moments ago that he will be endorsing Barack Obama for president this afternoon, becoming the 10th senator to officially endorse the Illinois senator’s bid for the Democratic nomination.

“I decided I wanted to determine who out there can inspire people to move in a new direction,” Dorgan said, deciding that Obama was that candidate.

This will be over by this time next week.
