I don't disagree with you about the contention that prostitution should, ultimately, be legalized.

But Spitzer's downfall is happening because of his own rank hypocrisy.

He came into office as "Mr. Clean" and when he was Attorney General zealously prosecuted anyone who dared cross his path. He even reserved special scorn for the prostitution rings he helped bust up as AG (perhaps because he had inside information, who knows).

The man is a hypocrite and that's why he's going down.

I do not support most of Spitzer's political positions. He is certainly a political opponent who is easy to dislike, but I will not join in the ranting over his supposed "sex scandal."

Every married American man pays for sex, so why is prostitution illegal?

In America, when you marry, a man is required to obligate half or more of his worldly assets, both present and future, in exchange for what is typically infrequent and uninspired rolls in the hay with a sex worker who typically stays around for five to seven years, this sex worker is also known as a "wife."

If one outsources this recreational sex function to a short term contractor, the cost is lower and, for both the man and woman, the arrangement is often more satisfactory than the five year contract we commonly refer to as, "a marriage."

In many countries, men in power are expected to have one or more mistresses. These other cultures look at our country and see us as hypocrites about adult relationships.

Most of the rest of the world could not understand all of the uproar over Bill Clinton's fling with the chubby Jewish girl, Monica Lewinski. I must admit that when I learned of the affair, I was a little relieved to learn that Clinton was at least occasionally interested in women. I had previously thought he was a homo. I mean really, with Hillary? Come on!

As for Republicans' mock righteous indignation directed at Spitzer: Based on my own observations of the GOP, half of the men are wishing that they too, could afford thousand dollar hookers, while the other half are thinking, "Spitzer had sex with a girl? Eeeeeew!"
