When last week’s episode ended, you just knew that things weren’t going to go well for the people of Jericho. Bonnie Richmond was dead in a shootout with Ravenwood, and the one person with evidence against Ravenwood’s commander was unconscious and headed for the hospital.
This episode picks up pretty much where last week picked off. Mimi is in the hospital and Jake has gathered the Rangers to protect her from Geotz and Ravenwood, who arrive in short order and a standoff ensues.
In the meantime, Hawkins talks again with his contact “Smith”, who last week revealed the involvement of Jennings & Rall in the conspiracy behind the bombs. And we learn just how high up this conspiracy goes. The ASA President was himself a former J&R employee, and his cabinet is full of former J&R people. The company and the Cheyenne Government, Smith points out, are basically the same thing.
We also learn that Heather Lipinski, who last week helped Jake and Hawkins steal documents from Major Beck’s office, is now the target of a bounty from the resistance in New Bern. Apparently, the town has been subjected to severe restrictions since the military came to town and they’ve started to rebel. In fact, Major Beck spends most of the episode off screen dealing with a crisis in New Bern.
As the standoff at the hospital continues, Hawkins sneaks in after killing three members of Ravenwood and proceeds to use his contact with Smith to allow Mimi to get the information exposing Goetz’s embezzlement to his superiors. After getting what seemed like reliable information from an informant, Goetz and his team invade the hospital only to find them gone, or so they thought. In fact, Jake had discovered the informant and used him to pass on false information. Ravenwood is gone, and the Rangers are going to set a trap.
Before anything can happen, though, Geotz’s superior arrives and fires him on the spot based on the information that Mimi had passed along. Goetz and his cronies are left alone and Jake moves in to arrest them, only to get stuck in a firefight with the New Bern insurgents. The firefight ends and Geotz is taken into custody.
And then, the episode takes another turn.
Stanley Richmond had been mourning the death of his sister throughout the episode and you just knew something was going to happen.
Just as Jake is in the middle of an argument with the New Bern insurgents over who will take Geotz, Stanley drives up, gets out of his car, walks over to Goetz, and, with barely a pause and not a word, shoots him in the head.
As the episode ends, we see Major Beck on the outskirts of New Bern with Geotz’s body hanging from a tree.
Justice has been served, but Jericho will have to pay.

Who are the Rangers? I’ve never heard of them before.
I know Johnston was an Army Ranger, but that’s about it.
Oh, and the fans are called Rangers too.
But who are the Rangers on the show and why?
Thanks a lot!

“The Rangers” is how they refer to what is essentially the town of Jericho’s militia. Townspeople with guns lead by Jake and initially sanctioned by Mayor Green to defend the town.
