I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

McCain-Romney `08 ?

by @ 7:57 am on March 28, 2008.

Speculation is building that two former rivals could become running mates:

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - In a show of Republican unity, one-time bitter foes John McCain and Mitt Romney raised money and campaigned together Thursday for a single goal - getting McCain elected president.

“We are united. Now our job is to energize our party,” the Arizona senator said in an airport hangar, flanked by Romney and Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., an early McCain supporter. Both have been mentioned as potential vice presidential picks, and McCain praised each.

Romney lauded McCain and promised to do all he can to help, saying: “He is a man who is proven and tested” and without question the right man to be president.

As Jim Riley notes, a McCain-Romney ticket would make a certain amount of sense:

For all of Romney’s flaws (such as his opposition to the flat tax), he could serve a useful role on the ticket.  He has a youthful appearance and is energetic.  It would help solidify the party base and further ease conservatives while at the same time not repulsing moderates and Democrats who are considering voting for McCain in Nov.  Romney’s Mormon faith wouldn’t be quite as big a deal in the No. 2 spot as it would have been in the top spot

Of all the choices that McCain has, this would be the one that makes the most political sense.

…or… the worst of the worst. The party renegade + the flip-flopping religious whacko. I’ve got to say that it seems Romney’s health care for Massachusetts is hated among co-workers who live there.
