I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

The folks who have helped perpetuate the tax system as it stands today are the same ones who benifit most from the power it affords them over the American public. Is there any circumstance under which you believe there will ever be a micron of significant change? Short of a revolution, which won't happen as long as we have our televisions, plentiful gasoline, and government schools indoctrinating our children, the newest generation of Americans will in all liklihood be living under full-blown socialism within only a few short decades. The policies/programs FDR and others put into place have given birth to a multitude of unintended consequences that have steered this country in a direction that in my opinion is, I'm sad to say, irreversible. Regardless of who is voted in or out at all levels of politics, that direction won't be altered. The best we can realistically hope for is to slow the speed of the general decline. History shows us this is the way it has always worked, and the greatest nation on Earth seems destined to follow in the footsteps of so many once-great civilations of the past. A democratic republic (the finest form of government to date, IMHO), is inherently doomed to destruction by the very foundation it is built upon: Freedom. It is human nature to eventually pervert freedom while abdicating personal responsiblilty, resulting in a form of government that is akin to a snake consuming itself tail first.
