The first-quarter fundraising numbers are out for the 11th District, and Gerry Connolly appears to be doing very well:
According to disclosure reports to be filed to the Federal Election Commission tomorrow, Gerald E. Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, is leading the pack of four after raising $500,000 during the first quarter of 2008.
As of March 31, Connolly had $424,000 on hand, his campaign reported.
Former congresswoman and state lawmaker Leslie L. Byrne is in second place with $240,000 raised in the first quarter, $160,000 of it picked up just in the month of March. Byrne had $243,000 on hand on March 31.
A campaign spokesman for another Democratic candidate, former military pilot Douglas J. Denneny, said he would not release his numbers until tomorrow. A fourth candidate, physical therapist Lori P. Alexander, was far behind in the money race with just $8,000 raised in the first quarter.
Republican Keith Fimian, meanwhile, is building up quite a warchest for the General Election:
Republican Keith S. Fimian is ahead of all the Democrats with more than $740,000 on hand as of March 31. Fimian, a successful business owner, has contributed more than $300,000 of his own money to his campaign. But he has raised more than $500,000 from individual contributors.
And he’ll need every penny of it.
