According to reports, Bob Marshall is far behind both his Republican rival and the probable Democratic nominee in fundraising:
Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William) raised $52,000 for his U.S. Senate bid in the first three months of this year, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission that were due this week.
His Republican rival, former governor James S. Gilmore III (R) raised $396,000. Probable Democratic nominee Mark R. Warner, also a former governor, raised $2.5-million.
Marshall, who will compete with Gilmore for the Republican nomination at a convention next month, spent more than $32,000 during the reporting period and had almost $20,000 on hand.
“I’m going after delegates not dollars,” Marshall said.
True, but dollars don’t hurt. And, on the off-chance you win the nomination, you’ll need a ton of money to even come within striking distance of Mark Warner.

At the Shad Planking, nearly everyone who came by for the superb, and Richmond’s own, Legend Beer being served by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, were talking about either how much they liked Bob Marshall, or how much they couldn’t stand Bush’s pal, Gilmore.
While not a scientific sampling, it looks like those who generally support the Republican candidates are eager for Bob Marshall to be the nominee.
When Bob Marshall makes it past the Convention hurdle, he will get all of the money he will need. Let’s not forget that many of his core supporters are not enslaved by TV and the corporate controlled media, anyway, so unlike Warner, Bob Marshall does not need a massive multimedia effort to win.
Virginians are getting to know Bob Marshall, not through a bunch of empty sound-bites, but by his solid reputation as a legislative scholar and the man who has become Virginia’s own, “Champion of the Constitution.”
J. Tyler Ballance – I think you have the right of it.
