They say politics makes for strange bedfellows, but this has got to be one of the strangest:
Texas congressman Ron Paul is still officially in the presidential race, despite Arizona Republican John McCain winning enough delegates to become the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
But with Paul’s long shot bid for the White House now a no-shot bid, a few of Paul’s supporters appear to have started a new web project called Join, or Die 08. They’re rallying behind McCain.
Given many of Paul supporters’ staunch and vocal opposition to the war in Iraq, and some supporters’ rocky relationship with much of the of the Republican party, this call for unity to support McCain is surprising.
The group’s site uses Benjamin Franklin’s famous cartoon to rally support around McCain
At it’s core, its really a call for Republican unity and, if Paul’s supporters are going to be something more than just the flash in the pan most people, this author included, think they’ll turn out to be, they’re going to have to get involved in, support, and then change the Republican Party. And part of that includes standing behind party candidates even if you don’t always agree with them.
From their website:
Just like our founding fathers we must unite as a party and a common cause for freedom smaller government less taxes and less control. We cannot being broken any longer all the party must unite around John McCain for the preservation of liberty and the America we know.
We cannot let the liberals instill more government, more control and more taxes we must unite under these common goals to defeat socialism.
for the freedom and choice in healthcare for state rights for closing Guantanamo Bay for capitalism against new taxes against new subsidies, new programs, new pork spending against government forced moral revision to the institution of the family against the punishing of profit and private innovation It is now time to fight socialism and push the message of true republican freedom!
I wish them luck, but I don’t think many Paul supporters are going to bite.

In what kind of world do we stand behind the things we don’t agree with? Wouldn’t it be great if everyone had a spine?

I would rather slam my boob in a car door than vote for McSame.

Michelle L: “I would rather slam my boob in a car door than vote for McSame.”
After the last few months, I’ve found more and more that there is no such thing as the perfect candidate. No one can make everyone happy. I was tough on Paul, but if I was truly honest with myself, I would still vote for him over Hillary or Obama (begrudgingly, mind you, just as my vote for McCain will be). In particular though, it eventually gets to the point where you really only have a couple choices left. So now, I ask Michelle L if she is looking forward to a third term with a Clinton in office or the most liberal Democrat in the entire primary? We all have to make tough decisions, and I hope you are ready for the results if this happens, because the next president may have a greater influence over the coming years than President Bush or those before him ever had.

Oh, but, Ron Paul supporters ARE getting involved AND changing the Republican party.
Here is a good example:
