Indiana Dems: Tight As A Drum

by @ 7:53 am on April 25, 2008.

Two new polls show that the race in Indiana between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is pretty much tied with two weeks to go.

First, from the Indianapolis Star:

Sen. Barack Obama holds a narrow lead over Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in Indiana, with the outcome of the May 6 primary likely in the hands of a large number of undecided voters, according to a new Indianapolis Star-WTHR poll.

The poll showed that Obama — helped in particular by strong backing from black voters — is leading Clinton 41 percent to 38 percent among likely Democratic primary voters. But given the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points, this race is either candidate’s to win or lose.

Most importantly, though, there are a huge amount of Hoosiers who, as incredible as it might sound considering that this race seems like it’s been going on since the beginning of time, haven’t made up their mind yet:

That’s especially true because 21 percent of the respondents remain unsure of how they’ll vote — a high number of undecided voters for an election less than two weeks away.

Which just guarantees that the state is going to be saturated with politics from South Bend all the way down to Bloomington.

Meanwhile, a poll from an Indiana television station shows the same thing:

INDIANA (WISH) - A new WISH-TV Indiana poll shows exactly why Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are spending so much time and money in the Hoosier state.

Hillary Clinton knows that, for her, a loss in Indiana could spell the end of the campaign.

Barack Obama leads in the WISH-TV Indiana poll, though by the smallest of margins. The numbers are Obama 48, Clinton 47.

Three weeks ago our poll showed Hillary Clinton with a lead 49 to 46

As Justin Gardner notes, the tightness of this race can only mean one thing:

Trust me, they’ll both go negative in Indiana. This contest is too important not to.

Yep, that’s about the size of it.

Too many republicans tossing honesty and integrity out the window just so they can pick Hilary. “Operation Chaos” is disgusting and low.
