Apparently, some people think that it’s a big deal that John McCain’s wife is really, really rich:
As heiress to her father’s stake in Hensley & Co. of Phoenix, Cindy McCain is an executive whose worth may exceed $100 million. Her beer earnings have afforded the GOP presidential nominee a wealthy lifestyle with a private jet and vacation homes at his disposal, and her connections helped him launch his political career — even if the millions remain in her name alone.
To which I say two things.
First, who cares ? So John McCain’s wife has a lot of money thanks to her family’s, and her, business success. What in the world does that have to do with him being a candidate for President of the United States ?
Second, I think there’s going to be some segment of the population out there who’ll read a story like this and think — John McCain’s wife is a beer heiress, cool.
I’m no McCain fan, and I don’t plan on voting for him in the fall. He lost my vote years ago when he eviscerated the First Amendment. But the fact that his wife is rich doesn’t bother me at all.

Cindy McCain’s money, per se, is not the problem. The problem is the relationships of the wealthy Hensleys to crime (e.g., Keating Five) and even murder (fellow investor Kemper Marley’s implication in the murder of investigative reporter Don Bolles.) The McCain’s baggage includes a lot of very dirty laundry.
