Less than two months ago, John McCain enjoyed a double digit lead in Virginia, which hasn’t been won by a Democratic Presidential candidate since 1964. Today, however, the race in the Old Dominion is far closer:

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Virginia finds John McCain leading Barack Obama by just three percentage points, 47% to 44%. That’s a significant improvement for Obama after trailing the presumptive Republican nominee by eleven points a month ago.

The margin of error for this particular poll is 4.5%; meaning that Obama and McCain are essentially statistically tied and that Virginia may be far more competitive than the McCain campaign would like.
