I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Washington Drivers: Rude, But Not Rude Enough

by @ 5:49 pm on May 14, 2008.

Come on guys, you know we can do better than this:

As traffic in the Washington region continues to worsen — disrupting dinner plans, ruining Little League games and raising the blood pressure of millions every day — a survey released this week offered some (small) consolation: At least we’re not getting any ruder.

According to the third annual AutoVantage Road Rage Survey, Washington maintained the dubious honor bestowed upon it last year, ranking the fifth-rudest metropolitan area in the nation.

“So we’re still lewd, rude and crude, huh?” said John B. Townsend II of AAA Mid-Atlantic. “It speaks about the Jekyll and Hyde personality. We will do things behind the wheel, say things to people behind the wheel, that we wouldn’t say face-to-face. Traffic has become so depersonalizing that it lapses the sense of who we are and what we are.”

The survey also found that Washington was the most likely place for drivers to slam on their brakes at the last minute; 40 percent of motorists surveyed here said they observe that daily.

Washington fell behind Miami, Boston, New York and Baltimore on the list of least courteous cities but beat out congestion capitals Atlanta and Los Angeles. The most courteous cities were Pittsburgh, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis and Cleveland

Come on, I know we’ll never beat New York. But losing to Miami ? I’m disappointed.
