Another Crazy Pastor On John McCain’s Bandwagon

Of course, some McCain supporters will probably say that hating Muslims isn’t just okay, it’s every good American’s duty.

    Hmm, I heard the pastor say that Islam is a problem (a point I agree with) and he suggested that the extremists were fundamentalists of Islam (another point I agree with), but I’m still waiting to hear him say “hating Muslims” is all right as you have stated. The Christian view would be to hate Islam, as it is destructive and everything Christianity isn’t. Muslims, on the other hand, may follow to different levels (just as Christians are greatly divided some parts of their views), and if I heard him say “Muslims are a great evil”, I’d agree with you. He targeted the faith, not the people.

    That being said, his support will likely falter on this. It is hard to reach across the aisle with someone like this featured in a major media report supporting him, and McCain will need to think long and hard about how he plans to deal with this.

    And while I do agree with him, I’m not sure a church is the place for that sort of thing. Christianity’s superiority, okay, other faiths’ inferiority (presented on the broad scale), okay, but hitting one religion in this way (which some may argue has a political slant and could endanger his church’s tax status) just doesn’t seem quite right. Scratch the last sentence from the prior paragraph. McCain must think quick and hard about this.

    All I can say is that there’s nothing about this man that is consistent with the Jesus Christ that I learned about in CCD classes.
