First, comes the news that likely Senate nominee Jim Gilmore is having fundraising problems and loaning his campaign money:
RICHMOND, May 21 — U.S. Senate candidate James S. Gilmore III lent his campaign $50,000 earlier this month, a sign he might be struggling to keep pace with his potential Democratic rival’s huge money advantage.
In a filing Wednesday with the Federal Elections Commission, Gilmore reported that he made the loan May 11.
Combined with other fundraising, Gilmore’s finance report shows, he has $204,000 in the bank after raising just more than $1 million since he announced his candidacy in November. He will face Del. Robert G. Marshall (Prince William) for the GOP nomination May 31 at a party convention.
For reference, the most recent FEC filing by Bob Marshall, dated March 31st, shows that Marshall isn’t doing any better.
Then, there’s the news that Mark Warner has more than $ 5 million in the bank:
Former governor Mark R. Warner (D) has raised almost $8 million for his U.S. Senate campaign, and has $5.3 million in the bank, according to campaign finance reports he plans to release today.
Since April 1, Warner has taken in $1.5 million. Warner’s numbers’ show he has about a $5 million cash-on-hand advantage over his likely GOP rival in the fall, former governor James S. Gilmore III.
And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, a new poll shows Barack Obama beating John McCain in Virginia 49% to 42%.
November’s not looking good my friends.
