OK, I'm going to take back my suggestion that HRC's not "media-savvy." It may be correct, but it may not. Just got this info through Drudge: http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/05/24/how-clintons-comments-didnt-then-did-catch-fire/.
This story concludes that the firestorm is about competition among journalists. A faraway NYPost journalist with a "better internet connection" scooped the journalists in Sioux Falls. How that gets us to the burning story still doesn't make sense to me, so I think that my "lack-of-pushback" from the Time Mag quote makes sense.

LE, thanks for the link to the longer video clip. That clip helped me sort out my thoughts on this situation better. Before her RFK comment, she said that people in SD want to vote. That's all she needed to say and maybe that she wanted to give SD voters a chance to hear her views about issues important to them, and maybe even to hear from them. In the interview, she addressed a couple of good SD issues.

The rest was unnecessary and defensive. Her RFK remark helps me, however, by providing me information about her that I need. When I email the DLC, DNC, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and others about the nominating process or the nominee, I have evidence that she doesn't know when to stop, she keeps talking, she introduces a for-instance like the RFK assassination, and then she is surprised that she gets pushback. That informs me that her judgment is weak.

My guess is that she was surprised because she had not gotten pushback from a virtually identical comment in Time Magazine, on March 6th. That also suggests that she is not media-savvy. If she were media-savvy, she'd recognize that she can make exactly the same comment in print and on TV, but she'll get much more response on TV.
In that sense, she was like Obama, who seems not to have gotten much pushback from making a comment about clinging to guns to Charlie Rose in 2004. At that time, Obama was not a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president and Rose is on late at night, so there wasn't any urgency to put it up on YouTube. (In 2004, was there a lot of political activity on YouTube?)

Wow, You are all Hysterical. You are Ripe for a Fascist leader to guide you all to the Fascism. Yes, that is correct. Fascism begins with a Charismatic leader of a grassroots movement bankrolled by banks. In your case - Wall Street. Ya, you will ignore the warning signs. You will name call. You will make threats. Yet, the majority of Americans recognize the signs. It is not healthy for groups of people to believe that their leader has not faults while he continuously lies. That is referred to as denial.

Read/hear the remarks in context. Read the paper's release about those comments. Read RFK Jr.'s remarks about those comments. It is beyond vile and despicable to even suggest that Hillary Clinton or anyone else would hope for an assassination of anyone, let alone someone as prominent as Barak Obama.

I lived during those times. I remember the back-to-back shocks of losing MLK, Jr and RFK within two months. I worked on Kennedy's campaign and was devastated at the horrible loss of what I thought then and think now to have been the last best hope of our country. Had he not been killed in California, history - ours and the world's - would have been different and hopefully better.

To think that anyone, even if you don't like her, would advocate or invite the killing of a political opponent is beyond me. Those who are so full of hate and so project that hate onto others are the real dangers to our society. And that Obama was quick out of the gate to exploit comments that his campaign clearly hadn't heard, read or vetted is even more despicable.

So much for the high-minded idealism of the Obama campaign. Oh wait, they don't play that "old Washington game"! I forgot. My bad.
