Obama’s Crazy Catholic Priest Gets A Smackdown

by @ 5:09 pm on May 30, 2008.

Not so much from his boss, or his boss on Earth, but from Chicago’s Cardinal:

The leader of Chicago’s Roman Catholic Archdiocese today sharply criticized a former adviser to Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign after the priest mocked Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) during two separate sermons on Sunday.

Saying he wanted “to avoid months of turmoil in the church,” Cardinal Francis George also secured a promise from the Roman Catholic Rev. Michael L. Pfleger that he will stop commenting on presidential campaign and refrain from mentioning any candidates by name in the future.

“The Catholic Church does not endorse political candidates,” George said in a statement. “Consequently, while a priest must speak to political issues that are also moral, he may not endorse candidates nor engage in partisan campaigning.”

Two weeks ago, Pfleger resigned as a member of Obama’s National Catholic Advisory Council.

“To avoid months of turmoil in the church, Fr. Pfleger has promised me that he will not enter into campaigning, will not publicly mention any candidate by name and will abide by the discipline common to all Catholic priests,” George said.

Yea, let’s see how long that one lasts.

It’s so sad that the media has to blame Senator Obama for every comment that someone makes who is remotely associated to the Senator. If you dont want to appear biased maybe you should consider reporting some of the statements that John McCain’s spiritual advisers have made recently, Unless being fair is something you’d rather avoid.
