Bob Barr Polling At 6% In North Carolina

by @ 6:56 am on June 3, 2008.

Some interesting news from the Tarheel State:

Barr receives 6% of the vote in possible match ups with both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee. Obama trails John McCain 43-40, while Clinton trails him 39-34.

Barr’s strength is with independent voters, with whom he pulls 9-12%. PPP’s previous North Carolina survey had found voters describing themselves as independents strongly inclined toward McCain.

Considering that this is better than any Libertarian candidate for President has done anywhere, it’s not a bad start. More importantly, if numbers like this hold up, I would expect media coverage of Barr’s campaign to pick up, although much of it will focus on the so-called spoiler issue.
