Well, it appears that, once again, a rumored imminent Vice-Presidential announcement has been shot down in flames:
(CNN) — Sen. Barack Obama on Wednesday called Sen. Evan Bayh “one of the finest United States senators that we have,” but didn’t mention what kind of vice president he thinks Bayh could be
The Indiana senator, who introduced Obama, has been at the heart of vice presidential buzz. Political pundits had speculated that Obama might tap him to be No. 2 as early as this week because of their joint appearance.
Now that doesn’t mean that Bayh isn’t still in the running, as he has been twice before, but it does mean that we won’t see an announcement out of the Obama camp until, most likely, after the Olympics:
Obama officials say privately it is unlikely a running mate will be selected before the candidate returns from a week’s holiday in Hawaii, which starts this Friday. That leaves about 10 days until the start of the Democratic party convention in Denver.
Which puts us right in the middle of the Olympics, and the month of August, when many Americans tune out on news coverage as the summer winds down. At this point, I doubt Obama will make an announcement of any kind before the Democratic National Convention.
