Hillary Delivers For Obama

Say what you will about the motives that may be driving Bill and Hillary Clinton, but it’s fairly clear that Hillary Clinton did what she needed to tonight:

DENVER, Colorado (CNN) — Sen. Hillary Clinton, who lost a tough battle for her party’s presidential nomination, on Tuesday night called on all Democrats to unite behind Sen. Barack Obama.

“My friends, it is time to take back the country we love,” she told delegates at the Democratic National Convention. “And whether you voted for me, or you voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose.

“We are on the same team, and none of us can sit on the sidelines. This is a fight for the future. And it’s a fight we must win.”

She also touched on a common message of the night — that Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, would offer more of the same types of policies of the Bush administration.

“You haven’t worked so hard over the last 18 months, or endured the last eight years, to suffer through more failed leadership,” Clinton said. “No way. No how. No McCain.”

The question now is whether the supporters will follow.
