It looks like Beanie Wells will be ready for Saturday night’s game against USC:
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel said on Tuesday that he expected running back Chris (Beanie) Wells to play against No. 1 Southern California on Saturday.
After missing the Buckeyes’ sluggish victory over Ohio with an injured right big toe on Saturday, Wells sat out of practice Tuesday. But Tressel said Wells would “actually be in the fray” of practice on Wednesday.
On Monday, Wells told Tressel he was ready to carry the ball 45 times against the Trojans. After Ohio State’s dismal offensive performance in their 26-14 victory against Ohio, Wells’s health has become increasingly important.
“I wouldn’t say that we need him, but him playing is a real big help,” offensive lineman Bryant Browning said. “He’s a great player, and he makes big plays.”
(…)
“Based on what I saw yesterday, he was running well,” Tressel said. “I think the key will be how he’ll be able to practice here in the back half of the week. Sometimes coming off an injury, a little soreness takes over. I was encouraged.”
This is good news, because Ohio State is going to need all the help they can get against the Trojans.
