The Lawsuit That Will Not Die Lives Again

by @ 5:48 pm on September 11, 2008.

Roy Pearson’s infamous $ 54 million pants will have their day in court yet again:

A customer’s $54 million lawsuit against a D.C. dry cleaner over a missing pair of pants will be argued again in court next month.

The D.C. Court of Appeals has agreed to hear the case first brought against Custom Cleaners more than three years ago by administrative law judge Roy Pearson.

Pearson sued the mom-and-pop business for $67 million in 2005 after the cleaners misplaced a pair of his trousers. He later lowered his demand to $54 million.

The case went to trial last year and a D.C. Superior Court judge ruled in favor of the South Korean immigrant owners, awarding Pearson nothing.

Quite honestly, I can’t imagine what motivated the Court of Appeals to take this case.
