I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Still As Tight As A Drum

by @ 1:15 pm on September 14, 2008.

The Presidential race remains as tight as it has been since June, and it seems unlikely to go beyond that pattern any time soon.

The Rasmussen tracking poll, which yesterday showed McCain/Palin with a three point lead over Obama and Biden, shows the same margin today:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows John McCain reaching the 50% level of support for the first time since Barack Obama wrapped up the Democratic Presidential Nomination. McCain retains a three-point advantage for the third straight day, 50% to 47%

(…)

Voters are evenly divided as to who they think will win, but McCain voters are now more excited about the election than Obama’s. Rasmussen Markets data gives McCain a 52.2 % chance of victory while expectations for Obama are at 46.8 %. These figures are updated on a 24/7 basis by market participants.

McCain is viewed favorably by 57% of the nation’s voters while Obama earns positive reviews from 53% (see trends). McCain is supported by 90% of Republicans and has a six-point edge among unaffiliated voters. Eighty-two percent (82%) of Democrats

The Gallup poll, meanwhile, which showed a 2-point gap yesterday, shows the same margin today:

Gallup914PRINCETON, NJ — The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update shows 47% of registered voters preferring John McCain and 45% Barack Obama when asked whom they would vote for if the presidential election were held today.

The latest results, based on Sept. 11-13 interviewing, are the same as Saturday’s report. McCain had led by as many as five percentage points in recent days, but the margin has narrowed to a statistical tie in each of the last three reports. The race has been competitive throughout the campaign, with neither candidate able to sustain a sizeable lead. Obama has held the largest lead for either candidate at nine points, but only for one day.

At this point, we’re in a holding pattern till the debates start.

I hope you have a lot of money hidden away for your retirement because McCain wants to tax your Social Security payments as if they were income. You could see as much as 42 % of your check taken right off the bat with no minimum income threshold.
He also wants to change the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefits so that there is a $3,500 mandatory deductible per recipient before coverage begins each year, essentially forcing people to pay what is being referred to as the “donut hole” before they get any of the “donut.”

McCain/Palin also believe that more veteran’s hospitals should be closed and care should be offered only at regional centers saving taxpayers approximately $4 billion annually.

McCain has proposed taxing money recovered from charity drives that help cover medical expenses if the money received equals more than half of their treatment. In other words, if you hold a benefit for your neighbor’s kid who has cancer, be prepared to hand over a huge chunk to the IRS because John McCain considers it income. Are you kidding me?
This one really makes me the maddest: John McCain wants veterans to pay for any prosthesis that is above the knee or elbow as the articulated prostheses are much more expensive than the smaller ones and will be limited to re-fittings every five years as opposed to “as needed” under the Bush administration. His reasoning was that veterans could do just as well or better with a wheelchair rather than an expensive prosthesis.
