As anyone who has been reading this blog for the past two weeks will know, I am no fan of Sarah Palin’s.
I don’t think she’s qualified to be President of the United States, by extension meaning I don’t think she’s qualified to be Vice-President of the United States. I question her assertion that she’s a reformer, and after watching the second part of Charlie Gibson’s interview, I am convinced she has no concept of what actually needs to be done to control federal spending and the growth of the state, which I consider the single biggest threat to individual liberty in this country.
I wasn’t going to vote for McCain (or Obama) to begin with, and the Palin pick certainly hasn’t endeared me to this year’s version of Republicans pretending to be small-government conservatives.
Nonetheless, I’ve got to say that there’s one blogger out there who’s gone way over the top in his Palin-phobia and he’s a guy who I used to think at least approached issues with some degree of rational thought, even when I disagreed with him.
Yes, my friends, Andrew Sullivan has jumped the shark.
Consider a few examples from today.
Like this:
I’m now more determined than ever to reveal the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about this dangerous, vindictive Christianist cipher being foisted on the United States.
Or this:
Palin is the apotheosis of the neocon dream. She siphons the religious fanaticism of the base to support war on behalf of what the neocons believe is in Israel’s and America’s interests. The goal is war against Iran and Russia. And a further deepening of the occupation of Iraq.
And can anyone forgot Sully’s strange late August obsession with the lies about Trig Palin being Sarah Palin’s grandson rather than her son (see here, here, and here) ?
I’m not quite sure what’s going on. Is Sully so wrapped up in his love for Obama — and make no mistake, he’ll turn on a President Obama just as he turned on President Bush — that he isn’t thinking clearly ? Or is this just a play for attention ?
I don’t know, but it’s gotten to the point where Sullivan, who I used to enjoy reading even when I didn’t agree with him, is now just becoming bitter, cranky, and unreadable. How much longer he stays on the Blogroll or in the RSS feed I can’t really say.

Yes, but he worded it so well.

A paranoid crank with a good education can write well, that doesn’t mean he’s worth taking seriously.

He has mental issues, clearly.
He has been deteriorating, week by week, since January.
It has been fascinating to watch him go more and more off his rocker. I suspect that the peculiar pleasure of observing a public train wreck is why most people read him now.

Doug: Did you see the full, unedited Sarah Palin interview?

I think the effect of energizing the Republican base with Palin was meant to be minor.
The major effect, is smoking out the more prominent of liberals for the overreacting “emotions-over-rational thought” people that they are.

Of the four people running only Palin has attempted to control spending and reduce the size and scope of government. I only have confidence in her. Is she qualified to be president? No job except vice president gives you the experience you require. Reagan certainly wouldn’t meet the standards you seem to imply. But then again considering our recent presidents only Reagan did a reasonable job, although by this I mean he destroyed our greatest ebnemy, brought prosperity, and helped control our court system. Contrast that to the Bushies and Clinton.

How can you say Palin acted to reduce government? She put her town in big debt and financed the state thru fed earmarks?

“Yes, my friends, Andrew Sullivan has jumped the shark.”
You’re ~4 years late to this party. After Bush spoke against some element of gay marriage Andrew reversed every “conservative” position he had ever held and became a ranting leftist.

[...] I noted a few weeks ago that Andrew Sullivan seemed to have gone off the deep end when it comes to Sarah Palin. [...]
