There’s yet more evidence that Virginia has moved in the Democratic column this year from the latest CNN/Time poll:
A new CNN and Time Magazine poll out today shows Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) with a 9 point lead over Arizona Sen. John McCain in Virginia.
Obama receives 53 percent of the vote to McCain’s 44 percent.
Obama holds commanding leads in both Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads and is tied with McCain in the Richmond area, according to the poll.
In Northern Virginia - which includes Loudoun, Fairfax Arlington, Prince William and Alexandria - Obama is receiving 60 percent of the vote compared to McCain’s 37 percent. Obama held a similar margin Northern Virginia in a Washington Post poll published last week.
In Hampton Roads, Obama leads by 17 points, 57 to 40 percent. McCain is up 50 percent to 49 percent in the Richmond area, which includes much of central Virginia.
(…)
Obama also appears to be making inroads with white votes. McCain has a 6 point edge overall among white voters, but he and Obama are tied among white women. Obama is also being supported by 40 percent of white men, a far bigger margin than many recent Democratic presidential nominees.
All of which suggests that the recent polls showing Obama ahead in the Old Dominion were on to something, and that John McCain has yet another problem to worry about over the next 33 days
