AP: Coleman Beats Franken

It’s looking like we won’t have to worry about Senator Stuart Smalley

The Associated Press has proclaimed Norm Coleman the winner in his race against Al Franken for Minnesota’s Senate seat.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune, however, says that a recount is likely in the race:

One of the most bitter U.S. Senate races in Minnesota history remains deadlocked more than 10 hours after polls closed across the state.

With all but a small handful of precincts reporting in, Republican Sen. Norm Coleman and DFL challenger Al Franken remain in a virtual tie and the contest appears headed for a certain recount.

Required in races with a winning margin of less than one half of 1 percent, the recount could delay a final result for days while ballots are retabulated across the state.

By law, the losing candidate could waive a recount, but that seems highly unlikely in this case.

Yea, I agree with that.
