Could a former Governor of New Mexico pick up the torch of the Campaign for Liberty ?
Make no mistake, Ron Paul lit the flames of liberty under a small but active percentage of the American populace about one year ago. At this point last year the Ron Paul faithful were drunk on hope after the first highly successful money bomb brought in millions of dollars in a single day. Now that Barack Obama is our President-Elect and Ron Paul is focused on continuing his freedom education and liberty activism effort through the Campaign For Liberty, talk of a 2012 Ron Paul Republican Presidential candidate has begun in earnest.
One of the most popular choices to carry forward the Ron Paul liberty torch is former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson.
Johnson’s one libertarian bona fide seems to be the fact that he came out strongly against the War on Drugs during his final term as Governor. Beyond that, it’s unclear what his policy positions are on many issues. More importantly, since leaving the New Mexico statehouse, he has largely retired from public life and, aside from a brief foray into the 2004 Libertarian Party Presidential race, hasn’t expressed any interest in running for office again.

Doug,
You didn’t attack Paul over Barry or some other reason. maybe you now realize Paul was the only option. For what ever the reason you tone has changed I hope it’s real.
In regard to Paul in 2012. I sure hope so. Had the media given him the spot light he would have won and maybe even beaten Obama. The debates would have been historic his record could have defeated Obama 100%.
Our local GOP party is even now talking about Ron Paul of course this was months after they kept pushing Fred and Mitt and now realized Paul was the only choice.

Darel,
Repeat after me: Ron Paul was a flawed candidate and a flawed messenger for the philosophy of freedom.
Repeat after me again: Ron Paul will not be a candidate for President in 2012. Mostly because he’ll be too freaking old.
Thank you.

I think Ron Paul was an awesome candidate and inspired a national movement focused on supporting the Constitution and freedom.
It is good to see that there may be others that can continue the message, like Gary Johnson. If so, we do need to start relatively soon to overcome the barriers that Ron Paul had to, namely lack of media coverage and therefore an ill informed populace.

Dear Doug Mataconis
Repeat for your own good, if you make an argument, it has to be substansiated by reason, that others can accept or debate.
Repeating with questioning is reserved only for religious sermons.
Thank you,
