The United Nations Is Worthless, Exhibit A

by @ 6:47 am on November 12, 2008. Filed under Dumbasses, Religion, Saudi Arabia

A nation ruled by intolerant theocrats will be in charge of a United Nations conference on religious tolerance:

UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 11 — Saudi Arabia, the oil-rich Islamic kingdom that forbids the public practice of other religious faiths, will preside Wednesday over a two-day U.N. conference on religious tolerance that will draw more than a dozen world leaders, including President Bush, Israeli President Shimon Peres and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Isn’t that sort of like putting the KKK in charge of Black History Month ?

Not really, it is more like putting the US and Israel into the UN so they can render the UN useless by vetoing in favour of each other.

Or having Israel simply ignoring over 100 UN resolutions just because she can (thanks to the blind support by the USA)

Or like starting an illegal war in Iraq to rescue it from the dictator who had been set up by the USA in the first place.

Or trying to bring democracy to Iran after the existing democracy was destroyed by the CIA in the first place.

You want me to go on? Hypocrisy sucks, doesn’t it?

  2. Jason Bibeau says:

The Title of this post alone is enough for me to agree with you. The concept of any Muslim Country having anything to do with a conference on “Religious Tolerance” other than as a severe counter point is laugable at best and makes about as much sence as placing ACORN in charge of voter registration reform.

I believe Ann Coulter and Laura Ingram have both said bull doze the UN and give NY some much needed parking space.

Not a bad idea, I mean lets face it, ideas like this pretty much prove how utterly useless the UN has become.

  3. Chris says:

That would be Exhibit B. Exhibit A was Srebrenica.

  4. h says:

    short answer: no.
    long answer: noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Um..right. God knows THOSE two are sane and peaceful people,
who really know what theyre doing………sigh.

(That was sarcasm by the way.)

  6. John says:

The UN is only as useless as people like you make it. How often do conservatives need to be wrong before they figure it out?

It’s like seeing some hillbilly walk into a room with a pile of shit in his hands, shouting “look what I just stepped in!”

  7. Jonathan says:

    Absolutely.
    That is a perfect analogy.
I would have harsh words for Steve, but what he has said already paints him as an idiot enough that I needn’t bother help him.

  8. Tom Human says:

Before the United States deliberately and publicly broke it, the UN was amazingly useful.

Consider that the United Nations was set up by the peoples of the free world to *defeat Hitler*. They knocked that one out of the park. Consider that the very existence of South Korea is due to the UN, etc. etc.

Unfortunately, the US realized they couldn’t accept a UN that sometimes disagreed with them, and so very publicly stopped funding it as well as vetoing pretty well anything they pleased. So now it’s b0rked.

It’s so characteristic of the Neo-Conservatives to come in, deliberately break something that was working, and then point to this breakage as evidence that it never worked in the first place. They did this with the UN, and now they just did this with the US government. They won’t get another chance – the current disaster is so big people won’t forget it for fifty years – but it’s a shame that they managed to syphon so many trillions out of the treasury and kill, main and render homeless so many millions before they were caught.

  9. Karl says:

In answer to TOM Human, You are way off base. Check out your supposed facts!

The UN was founded in 1945 after World War II to replace the League of Nations, to stop wars between countries and to provide a platform for dialogue.

The US funds 22% of the UN budget. As of 1 January 2008, the top 10 providers of assessed financial contributions to United Nations peacekeeping operations were: the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, China, Canada, Spain and the Republic of Korea.[38]

Responses for the likes of Jason Bibeau, are laughable as they try to confuse Saudi with muslim countries. Saudi is a US supported regime with no popular base other than the US armed Saudi military. While I hate Saudi disturbing crimes and hypocracy against religion, I think racism is behind many bigots to obscure the real problems here. It is /the US/Bush who have been trumpeting democracy and human rights while in reality they are destroying it. Bomb the Saudi ruling family do not bomb Mecca. That is the bottom line here. Capish Jason Bibeau Says, smarty pants?
