Why John McCain And The Republicans Lost

by @ 5:39 pm on December 4, 2008.

Veteran political analyst Roger Stone explains succinctly why John McCain lost the election:

Short version — he lost because he ran a crappy campaign and embraced the Crap Sandwich bailout.

Stone goes on to explain how the Republicans managed to get themselves into the disastrous situation they’re in today:

Money quote — “Is the Republican Party like a beautiful woman who’s been given a venereal disease by George W. Bush ?”

Heh.

Stone is correct about Bush, but then, the Republican Party followed Bush right over the cliff, with stupid smiles on their faces as they leaped over the edge, so it’s just as much rank and file Republicans as it is Bush. The hypocrisies of the past 8 years are shocking. There are very few real conservatives around anymore; it’s truly shameful to see what’s been done by a Republican administration in the past year, much less the 7 years prior. Do Conservatives even really exist anymore? Oh, sure, there are one or two authentic conservatives out there–Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan, for instance. But, there are not many others. The GOP has been corrupted by NeoCons and by Evangelicals. Where are the real foreign policy CONSERVATIVES; the real fiscal CONSERVATIVES? I left the party years ago because I couldn’t stand Bush; it was patently clear he was a fraud. Pity the rest of you Republicans couldn’t see that your hypocrisy would destroy the Republican Party altogether. If someone doesn’t begin to articulate some real conservative principles and platforms, this party may be toast for a very long time.

Good characterization of both political parties; the Democrats cannot ever get past their infighting and the Republicans are too blindly loyal. You know what I like about Roger Stone? All the dirty trickster crap aside, he’s got so much experience throughout so many administrations that his perspective is really honed.
