Apparently, that story about a McCain camapaign Blackberry being sold before the memory was wiped, wasn’t an anomaly:
FOX 5 has bought a second phone from the McCain campaign which contains even more information: photos from the Republican Convention, a personal calendar for campaign events leading up to the campaign, and more than 260 ‘contacts’ full of personal emails, phone numbers and addresses for McCain supporters.
Included in those numbers was the personal cell phone number for former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore.
FOX 5 called Gilmore on his cell phone.
“It makes me quite uncomfortable,” he says, because, “it’s a matter of principle. I gave that information to McCain headquarters and to have it sold is bothersome.”
(…)
FOX 5 traced the Blackberry to a high-level McCain campaign fundraiser. Government records show the owner raised more than $50,000 for the Republican nominee.
We’ve also started to receive emails from people claiming to have also purchased a Blackberry phones full of private campaign information. One man told us the info on his phone was “mind blowing.”
(…)
FOX 5 will not release any of the private information it obtained from the Blackberry phones, but Gilmore is concerned how many others might have his personal information.
“You don’t know who got this information,” he says. “There’s possible harassment. And there’s an enormous amount of campaign intelligence that shouldn’t be sold for such a low-value.”
I can understand the privacy issues involved, but, seriously, how much “campaign intelligence” of value can you really get from a campaign that was run as ineptly as McCain/Palin `08 ?
