Steelers 27 Cardinals 23

For the second year in a row, the Super Bowl did not disappoint:

TAMPA, Feb. 1 — What once seemed on its way to being a one-sided Super Bowl victory for the Pittsburgh Steelers instead became a memorably dramatic triumph for them. They squandered a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter, then got a remarkable touchdown catch by wide receiver Santonio Holmes with 35 seconds remaining to beat the Arizona Cardinals, 27-23, here this evening.

The Steelers won their NFL-record sixth Super Bowl title in seven appearances in franchise history. They had a 20-7 lead in the fourth quarter before surrendering 16 straight points to trail, 23-20. But quarterback Ben Roethlisberger took the Steelers 78 yards, the final six on a pass to Holmes, who somehow managed to get both his feet in bounds at the side of the end zone while stretching to make the grab.

While not nearly as improbably as last year’s Giants’ victory over New England, it was a good game to watch, which is something you haven’t always been able to say about the Super Bowl.
