I can’t say if Republicans think people are stupid.
What I can say is people think Republicans are stupid.

I think we are in the habit of blurring the line between the ideals of a party and the people we choose to carry them out. I don’t think our current crisis happened because we leaned too far to the left or right. I think it is the product of incompetence. Look at our current leadership. Our President didn’t even finish his first term as a Senator. Our Speaker of the House married into money. George W. had a successful father. The Kennedy family speaks for itself. Here is my area, one of our esteemed leaders got into politics only after running her business into the ground. Another, now retired, took over a seat that his father had before him.
I think there was a time when people proved their abilities before running for office. They had to because people paid attention. Now, our elections are little more than a popularity contest. Today, Lincoln would not have a snowball’s chance because he was not good looking.
I think we had better start demanding some qualifications from our leaders before we hire them. We are certainly seeing the results of failing to do so.
I can’t say if people think Republicans are stupid.
What I can say is Republicans think people are stupid.
