As I noted yesterday, Texas Governor hinted that secession was an option for his state if the Federal Government continued to grow. Today, a new Rasmussen poll shows that the vast majority of his state’s residents disagree:
Thirty-one percent (31%) of Texas voters say that their state has the right to secede from the United States and form an independent country.
However, the latest Rasmussen Reports poll in the state finds that if the matter was put to a vote, it wouldn’t even be close. Three-fourths (75%) of Lone Star State voters would opt to remain in the United States. Only 18% would vote to secede, and seven percent (7%) are not sure what they’d choose.
I suppose we should be concerned that nearly one-third of Texans have an erroneous view of their state’s history, or that nearly 20% of them would vote to leave the United States if given the choice, but, frankly, I”m not that concerned.
If these people really wanted to leave, there’s nothing stopping them from getting on a plane or a boat right now.

I’m surprised that the percentages are that high. I would have guessed that the percentage of people willing to seccede would be in the low single digits.
