Biden On Swine Flu: Panic, Panic, Panic !

by @ 8:24 am on April 30, 2009. Filed under Health, In The News, Joe Biden, Politics, Swine Flu

Vice-President Joe Biden appeared on The Today Show this morning and proceeded to stoke the fires of needless Swine Flu panic:

Vice president Joe Biden said today he would tell his family members not to use subways in the U.S. as the swine flu outbreak spread to 11 states and forced school closures amid confirmation of the first U.S. death.

“I would not be at this point … [be] suggesting they ride the subway,” Biden said when asked whether he would advise family members to use public transportation.

Biden made his comments during a brief interview on NBC’s “Today” show during an interview with Matt Lauer.

The vice president said if one person sneezes on a plane “it goes all the way through the aircraft.”

Biden said the advice to his family differs from that of the federal government’s to the public because, “That’s me.”

After the interview, co-host Meredith Vieira and NBC’s Chuck Todd discussed Biden’s statement, wondering if the vice president really had intended to caution the American public to stay off public transportation and airplanes. They noted his comments seemed to contradict public statements by other high-ranked White House officials.

Here’s the video of the full interview, the Swine Flu comment starts at around the 2:20 mark:

  1. Biden is a dangerous fool- his advice and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee at 7-11 (small).

He has been on the wrong side of history forever, so his DNC-vaunted “experience” has little value… he doesn’t appear to have learned a thing.

Like Obama, he vehemently opposed the highly-successful Iraq “Surge” strategy- instead, Biden favored surrender and came-up with a harebrained proposal to split the country 3-ways. And also like his boss, he never once admitted that McCain, Petreus, and Bush were right, and won the war… and that he and Barack were way, way off. The reality is that if the current administration was in-charge 4 years ago, Iraq today would be an Al Qaida Caliphate that makes Kabul of 2001 look like Disneyland.

Biden opposed every element of Reagan’s defense buildup that toppled the USSR as “dangerous”- and opposed the first Gulf war, which would have allowed Sadam to keep Kuwait and control a large chunk of the world’s oil supplies.

In the 1987 presidential primaries, he not only plaguerized British Labor leader Neil Kinnock’s speeches wholesale… but actually co-opted his entire life story, falsely claiming to have been the “first in his family to go to college” and a “coal-miner’s son”… when in fact Biden’s father was a car salesman (no surprise there, Biden looks like one too).

Joey Plugs often says things that display a strange disconnect with reality– best chain him to a telemprompter every time he heads-out the door.

I was going to write a comment here, but after reading the first one, I’m just going to say: “Ditto”

OK, I have watched the clip and I will leave a comment after all: Arlen Specter switched parties because he was facing opposition in the primaries. By promising him a clear road through the primaries, the Democrats were able to buy him off. Apparently the desire to remain aboard the gravy train outweighs his moral commitments to the Republicans of Pennsylvania who have supported him through all of these elections.
