An Idea Whose Time Has Come

by @ 8:18 am on July 22, 2009. Filed under 2009 Governor's Race, Bob McDonnell, Virginia, Virginia Politics

Bob McDonnell has an idea that makes a heck a of a lot of sense:

Robert F. McDonnell, the Republican candidate for governor of Virginia, proposed Tuesday handing over about 330 state-run liquor stores to private operators to pay for road improvements — a novel way to fund fixes but one that confronts many of the same obstacles that have stalled previous efforts.

(…)

[P]rivatization of the liquor stores would generate at least $500 million in one-time payments to the state, plus income and property taxes over time, according to McDonnell.

After 75 years, it’s about time.

  1. I wish PA would do that.

  2. Yea, I was at a family reunion up near Somerset last month and I’d forgotten how restrictive the alcohol laws are in PA.

You guys can’t even buy wine & beer in the grocery store, can you ? At least that was the case in Somerset

Why has it taken so long for this to happen? We have to find ways to bring money into the state and this sounds like the best one yet. What is it going to take? Mabey if some of Washington took a trip on the roads that we have to drive everyday it would help make up their minds.

Bob please keep up the good work. We need you in Richmond.
