Why Is Ken Cuccinelli Facebook Friends With Birther Lawyer Orly Taitz ?

Apparently, brither lawyer/dentist/real estate agent Orly Taitz recently began paying more attention to her Facebook account and it’s resulted in some interesting relationships.

First as Orly points out at her own blog, she is now Facebook friends with Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack:

Orly Mary

Now, Orly seems to be taking this as some sign that Bono agrees with her about Obama’s eligibility, but it’s more likely the case that some staffer at Bono’s office accepted Orly’s friend request, apparently because Orly lives in Bono’s district, without realizing who she actually was.

Update: According to the Obama Conspiracy Theories blog, Taitz does not live in Mack’s Congressional District

In looking over Orly’s friend list — to verify if Bono actually was a friend given Taitz’s tendency to misrepresent reality — I also noticed this:

Orly Ken

That’s Ken Cuccinelli, Virginia State Senator and Republican Candidate for Attorney General. One wonders how a politician in Virginia ended up being Facebook friends with a lawyer/dentist/real estate agent in California best known for advocating absurd and meritless claims about the President’s eligibility under Article II of the Constitution. Again, it’s probably a staffer mistake, but not a very smart one considering the perception it creates.

Uh, to answer your question, because she asked?

Of course, if — like most politicians — Cuccinelli approves friends requests as a matter of course, this would make your headline simply an effort to smear Cuccinelli with guilt-by-association.

  4. Which just goes to prove that politicians can’t follow an “approve every friend request” strategy.

Do I believe Cuccinelli is a birther ? Of course not.

Do I think he’s guilty of not being careful of how he uses social media ? Absouletly.

    It’s an amateur hour mistake

  5. You have 294 messages in your Inbox.

Would you please get to them?

  6. Heh.

They’re all Facebook group message that I tend to ignore.

    But I hear ya.

Ken has 2,132 friends. It’s silly gotcha blogging to say Ken is accountable for all his Facebook friends.

  8. For me, that just point out how pointless the ideas of Facebook “friends” are for politicians who obviously don’t have the time to screen the people they are connected with

  9. anon says:

Knowing how facebook works, I don’t have to wonder at all how they became friends. Have you ever been on facebook?

Orly sent a friend request to a politician. The politician responded back by accepting the friend request. I can’t imagine that a politician screens the people who want to be their “friend”. Can you imagine the nightmare of checking out every person who submitted a friend request to the White House?

This, and NLS’ post, are probably the stupidest I’ve ever read. There is serious stuff out there to get po’d about … and you waste your time on crap like this?

This guy wants to be Attorney General of Virginia? Caution to the wind, I’d say.

Why would you want to be “friend” with someone you don’t know anything about except a name?

  11. Rick Sincere says:

It turns out former U.S. Attorney John Brownlee, who was one of Ken Cuccinelli’s opponents for the GOP nomination as a candidate for Attorney General of Virginia, is also one of Orly Taitz’s Facebook friends.

I will draw no conclusions from this fact.

  12. anon says:

Yes, gotland, why does Barack Obama want to be “friends” with those million plus people anyway. I surely hope he’s spending considerable amounts of his own time and resources checking them all out.
