Things move fast in Congress and, in this case, even faster as expected as the resolution I wrote about earlier today noting President Obama’s birth as part of a recognition of Hawaii’s 50th anniversary of statehood passed unanimously:
(Washington, DC) – The U.S. House today gave unanimous approval to a resolution recognizing and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the entry of Hawaii into the Union as the 50th State. The resolution was introduced by Rep. Neil Abercrombie and cosponsored by Rep. Mazie K. Hirono.
The actual anniversary date for Hawaii’s entry into the union is August 21st, however Congress will not be in session, so the resolution was scheduled for a vote of the House today. Senator Daniel Inouye will introduce a similar resolution in the Senate tomorrow, cosponsored by Daniel K. Akaka.
The text of the resolution is here, and says in relevant part:
RESOLUTION
Recognizing and celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the entry of Hawaii into the Union as the 50th State.
Whereas August 21, 2009, marks the 50th Anniversary of President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s signing of Proclamation 3309, which admitted Hawaii into the Union in compliance with the Hawaii Admission Act, enacted by the United States Congress on March 18, 1959;
Whereas Hawaii is `a place like no other, with a people like no other’ and bridges the mainland United States to the Asia-Pacific region;
Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961;
The final vote was 378-0, with 55 Representatives (35 Democrats and 20 Republicans not voting)
This one is bound to get Orly Taitz’s head spinning.
Update: Welcome HotAir.com readers (and thanks to Ed Morrissey or Allahpundit for the headline link, not sure which one of you is responsible for that one). Other posts on the Obama birthers can be found here.

Why the rush? Did they actually see the long form of his birth certificate before they passed this resolution? I am getting madder by the minute. People Congress, the Senate and the media) don’t want to question this because they are afraid to look silly, they are worried about how they will be perceived more than the fact that an ineligible person is now the president of our country. I want to scream!!!!!!!!!!
Well and because Congress says it is so, it must be? After all they’ve never lied before, right?
Awesome. So where is the birth certificate?? Where are Francois Kerry’s military records??
Since nothing that passes congress is “real” esp in useless bills like these, it makes me doubt BO’s birth place all the more.
Doug — you made HotAir’s front page. NICE.
And yes, Taitz’s head will be spinning — faster than it usually does anyway.
[...] pressing issue, the House unanimously passed a resolution recognizing Hawaii’s entry into the union and Obama’s birth [...]
And just how does the Congress know where he was born? Have they seen his original long form birth certificate?
What disturbs me is the fact that congress wastes time voting on pointless garbage bills like this. Is the 50th anniversary of Hawaii becoming a state something that needs to be deliberated about and voted on by the congress? Maybe they could spend that time reading the important bills that they vote on instead?
If these Congress people who voted for the Resolution WITHOUT ANY of them actually seeing a “Birth Certificate” that would prove Obama’s citizenship then EVERY SINGLE ONE of them has committed fraud and should be booted out because NONE of them saw ANY proof of their resolution. The matter would resolve itself if only the President would show his Birth Certificate, NOT A COLB (CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH). A Certificate of Live Birth is provided when a person has NO Birth Certificate, couple that with the facts that recently the White house CHANGED its stance on which hospital Obama was born and that Obama was “Indonesian” as it CLEARLY states on his records when he attended school, in addition, Obama traveled to Pakistan in 1981, and while someone with “Indonesian” citizenship COULD travel to Pakistan American Citizens could NOT as it was on the State Departments travel ban list for U.S. Citizens. It should also be noted that Obama excused his trip to Pakistan by explaining he went there to see his Mother, however his MOTHER had traveled to Hawaii in August of 1980 to file for divorce from her second husband, Lolo Soetoro and NEVER RETURNED SO SHE WAS NOT IN PAKISTAN as Obama claims. Excuse some of us for doubting and questioning but let’s face it, there is a WHOLE lot of Secrecy and “Half-Truths”…

Matt
Voting on pointless resolutions is a time-honored tradition going back to Parliament.
And I’d rather have them spend their time voting on pointless resolutions than, you know, actually trying to run my life.
“Pix or it didn’t happen”, i.e. let us see the Birth Cerificate and maybe then those of us who doubt will believe it.
Doug,
Do you mean trying to run your life by say, voting for a health care bill that they haven’t even bothered to read?
Maybe being in congress should just be a part time job?
I tried to point out at the following link that even if you think the “birthers” are nuts, this was a golden opportunity to discredit the MSM:

Unfortunately, neither Allahpundit nor Morrissey are smart enough to realize that, with the latter still misleading about this issue even today. The fact that the leaders (broadly defined) of the opposition to BHO couldn’t figure that out speaks to a lack of intelligence, integrity, and imagination. They simply buy into whatever the MSM sells them without looking at original sources or being able to figure out what’s true and what isn’t.
See my coverage of this issue at my name’s link.
