Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

William F. Buckley Jr Would Be Proud

A sizable plurality of American would rather be governed by a group of random people than by the current Congress:

Forty-two percent (42%) of U.S. voters say a group of people randomly selected from the phone book would do a better job than the current Congress. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that an identical number (42%) disagree, but 16% are not sure.

Buckley, of course, once expressed similar sentiments when he said:

I’d rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.

He’d be pleased.

I do not think that he would be pleased. I think that he would be sad that this has become true. Personally, I think that 535 random people just might do a better job than the present Congress. This Congress has congressed the Constitution and the people.
