Now he says something:

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — After four years of “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” Jon Gosselin said he’s decided it’s not healthy for his children to be on a reality show.

“The reason I don’t think it’s healthy for them is that we’re going through a divorce right now, and I don’t think it should be televised and I think my kids should be taken off the show,” Gosselin told CNN’s Larry King on Thursday night.

“They’re 5 and 8 now; let them experience a normal childhood,” he said.

Gee, maybe you should’ve thought of that a few years ago loser boy.

Life imitates art, remember the sitcom “Eight is Enough”? Too often the high pressure, public environment doesn’t mesh well with growing up into a stable, responsible adult life. The need for good parenting is magnified by the exposure.

According to Wikipedia, these three series stars followed a pretty rocky road.

Child star Willie Aames struggled with drugs and alcohol for over twenty years, filed for bankruptcy in 2008, claiming debts of over $350,000, and he separated from his wife. After moving back to L.A., he tried to commit suicide on Thanksgiving Day 2008.

Child star Adama Rich’s adult life has been troubled by substance abuse and numerous arrests for drug offenses, shoplifting, and breaking-and-entering. In 1991, he was arrested for smashing a pharmacy window in an attempt to steal narcotics. He was bailed out of jail by his Eight is Enough “Dad” Dick Van Patten. He was re-arrested for shoplifting very shortly after being bailed out. He eventually plead no contest to both charges. On 20 February 2003, he was arrested for driving while impaired when he nearly collided with a police car on a closed stretch of Interstate 10 in the Los Angeles area.

Child star Lani O’Grady after suffering from agoraphobia and memory blackouts in the early 1990s, O’Grady retired from acting and became a talent agent. She also began taking nonnarcotic for a diagnosed brain chemical imbalance In a 1994 interview with the Los Angeles Times, O’Grady said she had suffered from severe panic attacks since the age of 18 but was not diagnosed with panic disorder until she was 21. She also admitted that she abused prescription drugs and alcohol, including Valium. In December 1998, she checked into the Thalians Mental Health Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for detox O’Grady died in her home in Valenica, California at age 46. An autopsy revealed toxic levels of painkiller Vicodin and antidepressant Prozac in her bloodstream, and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said she died of “multiple drug intoxication.”

The need for good parenting is magnified by the exposure.
